Gardening!

It is that time of year again when I attempt to become green fingered! Today was the day that I sorted out my compost in my large tubs (which are actually large rubber bucket looking laundry baskets). I then looked through my seeds to see which ones could be planted now, and to my surprise all of them are suitable for being planted now.

This year I decided to rearrange my veg differently as last year I found certain things took over and suffocated the other veg. So, this year the carrots are planted with the lettuce, and the spinach is planted with the onions. This way I can tell the difference between the lettuce and spinach! And also the onions and carrots won't be fighting for growing space. It only took me half an hour to sort out the soil and remove the deads from last year and then sow and water the new seeds. Simple. I also added in a few labels, which will suffice until I can make more robust ones for when I put the tubs back out on my balcony.

But, that isn't where the growing stops! Oh no! This year I am also attempting to brighten up my downstairs balcony by planting some flowers in tubs. I am going for my robust plants as the balcony can be a little windswept at times, but I am hoping to block off the open side of the balcony to reduce the risk of the plants being battered! My main reasoning for chosing to plant new flowers on the downstairs balcony was the offer of 3 free packets of seeds of my choice from Homebase, simply because I am signed up to their Get into Gardening "club". And, even better, these free seeds are available to anyone who signs up before the 1st of April!





These are known as Candytuft Fairy flowers! It was the name that grabbed me and then I was grabbed by the array of colours and I decided I just have to have them to grow on my balcony!
I am also hoping to grow some lavander, mainly because it smells great and is a hardy plant that will grow year after year, I can also pick and dry it to use for creating little scent bags and other such cute things. I can't wait to get my seeds and more people should definately get into it! I used to think gardening was for retired people, yet since getting into it I find it insanely rewarding and really great fun, especially when you see what you have grown and then get the joy of eating it - the vegetables that is! So all I can say is don't knock gardening until you try it! Happy planting! :)
